Happy New Years Eve!!

The most overrated of all the holiday's is upon us.  I hope you have finally figured out to not put too much stock in this holiday or she will let you down... miserably.  I plan on donning lot's of sequins and color and heading down to Austin for a fun filled night with one of my best friends. It doesn't matter what you are doing with her... you WILL have a good time so I know tonight will be no let down.

I hope you have a fabulous beyond fabulous NYE but more importantly I hope your 2013 kicks 2012's ass {that's what I'm hoping for anyway...}.

Resolutions :: #2 & #3... Travel & Language

The final hours of 2012 are coming to an end and let me be the first to say I couldn't be happier. I am ready for 2013... it's really going to be my year.

This next resolution actually expands into 2014 but oh well.  I already have a lot of travel plans for 2013... Nashville in February, Denver in June and April, and hopefully another trip to DC sometime before the year is up to see my brother again! {Not to mention New York 5 times, Atlanta 4 times, Las Vegas twice, and New Orleans a few times thrown in for fun.. and work.}

While these are fun and I am extremely excited for them, I have finally decided to start saving for a trip to Paris. I've always wanted to go, even through pictures it's completely magical and breathtaking. So, sometime in 2014 I will be taking a week off and heading to France.  I have decided that whether I go alone or if someone wants to come with me this is happening {any takers?}.

Besides this trip I also want to make it more of a habit. Once my credit cards and other large bills are paid off I am going to keep a savings account just for traveling {hopefully mostly abroad}.

This brings me to my next resolution, learn French.  I have talked about this for years now and have had a lot of people tell me that that's a waste of my money and time.  Well, haters be gone, I do not have any interest in learning Spanish {call me naive}, so in 2013 I am going to take a French class and hopefully I will learn enough to get through my week long jaunt.

Resolution :: #1... Trouble

I am going to start a new series through January.  I feel as if 2012 was a VERY enlightening year for me so I have quite a few resolutions to kick off 2013.  These are in no particular order, just the order I blog about them. To start out I will let Taylor Swift explain the first one...

I spent most of 2012 single. Which, I have to admit was very fun.  The few guys I did "date" were jerks, commitment phobes, or let's just say most of them were trouble.  While I am not dating the hipster, tattooed guy with long hair such as she seems to be dating in the video {mine are more preppy khaki wearing guys} I feel for her.  It's possible that's why this song brought me from being iffy on T-Swift to blasting and singing this song too loudly.

Enough of that, my point is resolution #1 is to only date the nice guy.  That's it. There's not much to it. When I realize a guy is trouble I will not stick around to see what happens. I will stop talking to him and move on the the next guy who appears to be one of the nice guys.

My resolution is NOT to find a boyfriend in 2013, don't be confused. My resolution is to stop wasting my time on trouble, if this means I stay single until 2025, so be it. You should probably take this advice as well. The world would be a better place.

It sounds simple enough, however apparently it took me having an epiphany to reach this conclusion. Which means, it's important enough to add to the list.

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you've had a great Holiday with your family, friends, and whoever else you enjoy spending time with.  I know I've had a great time since Saturday. I've been in Wichita KS where my parents live with my sister who came from Denver. Basically all we've done is eat, drink, nap, watch Lifetime Christmas movies, and laugh.  I have been in a cozy sweater and sweat pants most of the time so I can't complain too much.

Christmas Morning!
My brother stayed in DC this Christmas so we had a FaceTime present opening session.
Kansas sunset from a few days ago. Still some snow remnants on the ground. Hoping for more today!
I am going live up the rest of my relaxation vacation and go snuggle under a blanket.  My brother and his girlfriend inspired us to pull out Scrabble so that will be started shortly as well.

Wedding Thursday :: Dress Love...

So as many of you know Gossip Girl's last. episode. ever was Monday night. Tears, laughter, all of the above but mostly I feel a void in my life. How am I going to fill that void? I have no idea,  I guess will keep searching for something but the main thing I took from this episode was Serena's wedding dress. I died, and cried all over again. If for some reason you haven't watched it yet sorry for the spoiler alert.

It was designed by Georges Chakra and it melted my heart.  I want nothing more than to someday walk down the aisle {preferably not the staircase into my best friends living room as she did...} in this gorgeous creation. {Which is another reason why my future husband has to be a SAINT to put up with me... and my gold wedding dress...}

Well first step first... not be single.

Getting Over Wednesday...

Happy Wednesday! It's almost over... that's the important part. Here are some words to remember year round but especially at the holiday's when you are single. {wait do I need a pity party? Ok... that's done...}.

Moral of the story? I know it takes awhile to learn it but it's true. Quality over quantity.

Travel :: Southeast Road Trip

I am lucky enough that I get to travel on a regular basis for my job. Last week took me on a 5 state road trip around the southeast. Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, back to Georgia.  Luckily I was traveling with a co-worker I can also call a friend.  While we didn't have much time to explore we did make the most of the short time we had in each city.

Driving across a causeway in Alabama. Beautiful day to be near the ocean! I fell in love with Auburn, AL and wish we had more time to take pictures there. It was perfectly cute and preppy and I plan on making a trip back ASAP. It's possible I may move there...

We then ventured to Tallahassee, FL where Kelly went to school at Florida State. So of course we had to hit up the college hot spots. I was called 21 and 20 by 2 separate people so I had a great time.

Next stop... Jacksonville, FL. We got to our appointment a little early and decided the best thing to do was to take a picture in front of the festive lions. No one was around so two solo shots it was!

I fell in love with the windows and trees at Capitol and Poole Shop in Charlotte. I was too in love with everything inside the stores to remember to take pictures. Gorgeous beaded bags, over sized lion and elephant rings, beautiful kaftan's, I literally die for everything.

I then fell in love with this owl cuff and these booties at Chez Elle in Charlotte, NC.  Both of which were more in my price range and on my Christmas list as I type.

Next up was dinner in Chapel Hill at Top of the Hill. Our first actual dinner that wasn't from a bag, or a hotel fridge.  Fried pickles and jalapeños followed by fried shrimp gnocchi.  Hey I said it wasn't from a bag I didn't say it was going to be healthy. It was so amazing I may hop a flight to Chapel Hill just to eat here again. Notice the outfits... everywhere we went people commented on how bright we were. We were ready for a colorful preppy holiday!

Last but definitely not least was hitting up Bojangles on the way back to Atlanta from Raleigh.  I have heard about this for the last 2 years by a certain friend who swears it is the best thing ever. He was right... Luckily it's not near me otherwise I would literally weigh 250 pounds.

After spending a week in the southeast I immediately want to go back and spend more time exploring. I think I was a Southern Belle in another life...

Tis the Season...

I love the Holiday season. Everything from Thanksgiving to Christmas and New Years Eve and all that is in-between.  The smells, the sounds, the chill in the air, the whole she-bang.

This brings me to my next point and possibly one of my favorite things on the entire planet which is this...

Mariah Carey "All I Want For Christmas is You"

I don't care what you say. This song fills me with so much joy no matter how many times I listen to it, which has to be in the millions, no joke. From blaring it in my car on the way to high school, and turning it up as loud as possible in any college boyfriends house no matter the month it's my go to {even in July}.  If I ever get married I'd be surprised if it wasn't requested 59 times at my reception {which means my future husband has to be a Saint}.

This song will always be my favorite.  And so the season begins...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope everyone is home with family, friends, and good food.  Today I am thankful for being home in Kansas, my sister coming all the way from Denver and my brother coming all the way from Washington DC.

I am thankful for the women in my family.
 I am thankful for big news and everyone's health.  I am thankful for the smart ass way my family talks to each other, how much we laugh while we are together and the fact that they really made me who I am today.

I am thankful for my brother and sisters.
I am also thankful to get to see old friends while home, friends I've gone to school with since 1st grade, and friends I made in college.  I am thankful for a birthday party on Saturday to celebrate my brothers 30th.

Thanksgiving 2010 watching the Wildcats play football against North Texas.
The only thing I'm not thankful for is the fact that we are missing my oldest sister who is back in Dallas with her family today, however I'm sure her day will be filled with family and fun as well!

What are you thankful for today??

Beats to Jam to :: Travel Edition

So, as I mentioned last night I am on the road this week in Louisiana, one of my favorite states for many reasons.  I have an issue though, I lost my iPod somewhere between New York, Vegas, or maybe Atlanta in the last few months? I have no clue where it ran away but I think it may officially be gone... so alas, I am left with the radio and CDs.  I think we all know the last time we bought a CD, just kidding, I have no clue?

So you can imagine the CD case I still have is full of random college mixes and the radio is full of... well.... the radio. So I may know every Taylor Swift {no... we are never getting back together...}, One Direction {I just really wish you knew you were beautiful...}, and Beiber {wait do I secretly love this song?} and probably many more embarrassing songs by the time I get back to Dallas Thursday night. Anyway, I really wish I had these songs on my iPod for driving through the bayou's and French Quarter.

It's random but all songs I love to blast over my car speakers when I take these beloved trips to Louisiana.  Maybe next time... anyone want to buy me a new iPod?

Travel :: Louisiana

I am in Louisiana tonight after a 5am wake up call and really long day!  I will be in Baton Rouge and New Orleans {2 of my FAVORITE places on earth} all day tomorrow. After Louisiana I will be in Mississippi for about 5 hours {maybe less} before heading back to Dallas late Thursday night. I am already exhausted so I'm not sure how I'm going to do it and cram in some picture taking between appointments but I'm going to try.

A.Moet :: Luxe Lounging

I like to imagine when I'm lounging around my apartment I'm wearing the finest silk slip and the prettiest patterned silk robe. You know, drinking water out of a champagne glass, dipping strawberries in chocolate.  The truth? I'm in Target black sweat pants, a Hanes white t-shirt, drinking water out of a Cotton Bowl 2012 plastic cup, and eating a pumpkin muffin while smearing cream cheese frosting on it with a knife, you know so some gets on every bite. Whoops... TMI? Probably.  Wouldn't it be nice though to lounge around and get ready in something silky and beautiful?  That's why I have started my Christmas list.

Feira
The line is called A.Moet and it's inspired by redefining the everyday robe.  They wanted to update it and make it even more beautiful {think smoking jackets} but even more functional.  The purple color which is called Feira is my personal favorite, although I'd take any.  I especially love the pictures on her website.  The women are all doing things we all do everyday {drinking coffee, getting the mail..etc} but they look a million times more glam, and free then I do in my sweats. Not to mention the fact that they have pockets! I mean seriously, put a pocket on something and instantly every female likes it that much more.

Amazona

Stoan
Add some bangles and it literally looks like a wrap dress. I would wear this look to brunch any day...

Oh look! They did that too. In their gorg outdoor space with mimosa's of course.

It's the perfect mix between boho, free spirit, hippie but in a completely glam way.  Not to mention how do I get my hair to look like everyone of theirs? Off subject... but "like" them on Facebook, follow them on Pinterest, and keep up with them on Twitter.  I have a feeling this is going to be a line that will grow and evolve into something even more amazing than it already is...

Wisdom of Children

I owe this post to Papa Meetz.  I was searching through my email for something from my brother who just happens to have the same name as my dad and I stumbled upon this email I never read called "How do you decide who to marry?".  Intrigued as to why I never opened it and why my dad was sending me this I clicked on it.  Since my singleness and everyone else's... well non-singleness has recently been looming on me this seemed completely natural for a post. Plus... it's pretty funny.  I apologize for the incredible randomness of this post but I couldn't help it.

I found this post all over the Internet but couldn't really figure out the original source. If you know let me know so I can give them credit!

1. HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY? (written by kids)

-You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10

-No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10

This little girl needs to be my future daughter

2. WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10

3. HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8

4. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MUM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8

5. WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
-Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynn ette, age 8
{so wise beyond her years...}

This little girls fashion sense is wise beyond her years...

-On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10

6. WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

-When they're rich.
-- Pam , age 7

-The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
- - Curt, age 7

So cute.
-The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
- - Howard, age 8
{whoops... broke that rule}

7. IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9

8. HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?

There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8
{Amazing...}

And the #1 Favorite is.......

9. HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?

Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck.
-- Ricky, age 10
{This little boy is wise beyond his years... every male on the planet should take note!}

Hamster Box Redo :: Fire Place

Don't get too excited. No I didn't do anything crafty... yet. But I will, I mean eventually. Until then I am going to put together my inspiration for what to do above my fire place.  One issue is there is no mantel, so I literally have to hang something up there. Another is, well just take a look. It's not the easiest of fire places to decorate. You've seen it here, decorated for Christmas but now I am giving you a glimpse into my hamster box. Not just a glimpse, I am letting you see the one part of it I am not proud of at all. So, put that judgement aside.

It looks so much sadder than it does in my living room when you single it out like that. Sorry fire place. I swear the rest of my apartment is adorable and thoroughly decorated.  Ok I'm done defending myself.

Here are pictures of my inspiration and what I am going to try to strive for above there.  Don't hold your breath for the craft post. It won't happen until December but that's when I'm shooting for.

All 3 gallery wall pictures can be found here
I love a good gallery wall.  I'd have to scale this down and would probably only be able to do 1 maybe 2  rows but I think it'd probably make my little home a little more sophisticated.  It would go well with the rest of my black and white pictures in my living room and dining room too.

via
Something like this over my fire place might be the perfect solution. {as you can see the options have not been narrowed down in any some of manor}.

I was also thinking about getting a canvas and painting something myself.  Then getting a plank of wood and somehow without completely destroying the fire place making my own mantel.  We will see what happens.  I'm also intrigued by these melted crayon paintings...

Directions and picture via this website

We will see what ends up happening, like I said don't hold your breath.  It will be December.

Travel :: Bachelorette in St Louis

A week and a half ago I headed to St Louis {by way of Kansas City} for a Bachelorette party for a close friend.  It couldn't have been more perfect! Well except for the drive from Kansas City to St Louis where we got stuck in traffic because of a horrible wreck, had to stop 45 times for 7 girls to go to the bathroom, and then, on the out skirts of downtown St. Louis, getting pulled over by a cop to give us a ticket in a safe zone. Wondering what a safe zone is? So were we... the only thing we learned was that it doubled the price of the ticket.  Alas, we made it in time to watch our beloved Wildcats finish beating KU and with plenty of time to get in our sequined best to celebrate our friends upcoming nuptials.

I'm positive everyone thought we were lost and confused in the wrong state with all of our purple Kansas State shirts.  Quiet fans we are not...

Bachelorette pre-party at the hotel downtown.

All dressed up with somewhere to go!

Kansas State Chi O's taking over the lobby.

At dinner, bottles of wine flowing, preparing mentally for...

Dancing on the stage at the piano bar, taking over just like we used to in college.

The next day was obviously not a good feeling one {even though it just happened to also be my birthday!}. It was basically surrounded around...

Birthday mimosas!  We went to a fabulous place called Blondie's walking distance from our hotel. Two bottles of champagne, 3 different juices, the best coffee on the planet, and 3 hours later, I barely made my flight back to Dallas!

Well I am finally recovered from this trip to St Louis, and I will be doing it again in 2 weeks for the wedding.

Roots to Dye Over

I am growing  out my very own natural ombre effect right now.  On purpose? Oh no... I just have not had the time to go sit for 2 hours at a hair salon and with all of my recent travel it makes me cringe to think about spending another $100 on something I don't "need".  Especially since I'm seriously 2 weeks away from my very own, free ombre. These lovely ladies are giving me inspiration and not making me feel like a hood rat. {West Virginia hood rat? - Thank you Emily Maynard}

So next time you see me don't judge.  Give me just a little bit longer and you'll think it was intentional...

I Believe In....

I believe in laughing.

I believe in making mistakes... big mistakes and then letting myself more on quickly and learning from them.

I believe in peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, every day for lunch.

I believe girlfriends are the best medicine for anything that is wrong.

Night out with friends in Kansas City.
I believe that working your ass off will eventually pay off.

I believe that being 5 lbs over my "goal" weight but eating the tacos, french fries, and drinking the beer, in the long run makes me a happier girl.

I believe that watching Love Actually and crying your eyes out is how to get over a broken heart, and keeps my faith that "Love is all around..."

I believe in watching Glee, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, and Revenge and not being embarrassed about how much I love it.

Quinn Fabray and Rachel Berry
I believe in candles.

I believe in the color pink.

I believe a fur vest makes any outfit a little better.

I believe that dressing up and being girly makes me amazingly happy.

I also believe that sitting in my sweat pants drinking red wine makes me amazingly happy.

I believe in family.  The kind of family that makes you mad, cry, yell, and fight but also makes you laugh until you cry and understands you better than you understand yourself.

I believe in reading to escape to a different place.

I believe in flowers.

I believe in crying, even if you're not completely sure why you're doing it.

I believe in the power of being alone.

I believe in watching old movies with Audrey Hepburn and Lucille Ball to make me feel like I am in a different time and place.

Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire in Funny Face
I believe in singing ridiculous songs at the top of my lungs.

I believe in "All I Want for Christmas is You"by Mariah Carey.

I believe in the power of New York City, and the magic of Paris.

I believe in being a little naive over being jaded.

I believe in being a kind person.

I believe in Birthday's, and Birthday party's, no matter how old you are turning.

I believe women should be strong enough to stand their ground but able to always embrace their femininity.

I believe true love exists.

I believe in living life to it's fullest, traveling when I can, and being there for my family and friends, even if it means my bank account can barely pay a bill sometimes.

I believe being over dressed is always better than being underdressed.

Oscar de la Renta Gown
I believe in dancing like no one is watching; when everyone is watching.

I believe your real friends will always be there. No matter what life brings.

I believe in college football, and tailgating.

I believe in Fall; the trees, the smells, pumpkins; everything.

I believe in coffee.

I believe that a great outfit can make all the difference in your attitude and mood.

Above all else I believe that being comfortable in your own skin and truly being who you are is the only way to be entirely happy.

I stole this idea from Monica at Finer Feelings who just happens to make an appearance in one of my pictures. {or several through out the blog...}
